Hello.
Improving the essence of skin with care,
Director of Mind Dermatology,
Dr. Lee Hong-seon, a dermatologist with 17 years of experience.
"Ironing lifting?
I hear this is trending lately..
Does it really make the skin pull tight?"
These days, the so-called Sofwave, often called 'ironing lifting'Interest in it seems to be rising rapidly.
But sometimes some people say, "Isn't that all just a sales tactic? There's no way skin would really tighten like that," and think that way.
So today I thought it would be good to honestly explain this procedure called Sofwave myself, and prepared this post^^
I'll sincerely tell you when something is wrong and when it's right.
If you were curious about the Sofwave procedure, I'd appreciate it if you could focus for 3 minutes and read this post to the end :)

What is Sofwave?
Why is it called "iron lifting"?
People who are a good fit for Sofwave VS people who are not
1. What is Sofwave?
Sinchon Station Dermatology Clinic
Conventional ultrasound lifting, for example Ulthera, is a method that concentrates energy at a single point.
Using HIFU technology, the main purpose is to create thermal coagulation points at specific depths to stimulate tissue.
But Sofwave uses the same ultrasonic energy with a completely different approach.
Instead of strongly firing at one point, it simultaneously outputs seven cylindrical ultrasound beams in parallel.
This is to spread thermal stimulation widely and evenly at about 1.5 mm depth in the mid-dermis,you see.
When you stimulate one point intensively, the areas between those points can be relatively less stimulated,
but by spreading the thermal stimulus broadly like this, collagen regeneration occurs more evenly across the full thickness of the dermis.
So in a way it's sometimes called a less painful, cost-effective alternative to Thermage^^

2. Why is it called "iron lifting"?
Sinchon Station Dermatology Clinic
"Why on earth is Sofwave
called iron lifting?
"
Because it is a lifting procedure focused on restoring the density and elasticity of the thinned dermis itself. That's the reason.
The nickname arose because the effect is induced by filling and smoothing from within the skin rather than pulling wrinkles from above^^
So, especially for areas where the skin is thin and facial expression muscles are used frequently, such as around the eyes, mouth, forehead, and neck,it can be particularly helpful when you want to treat those areas.
These areas can be overly stimulated and irritated by conventional ultrasound devices, so clinicians may be cautious.
Sofwave uses a method that spreads a uniform, low-intensity stimulus over a wide area, so it can be used relatively safely on these sensitive areas.
Therefore, those who want to manage fine lines and dry, shrunken skin would really benefit from considering it :)
3. Who Sofwave suits
VS who it may not suit
Sinchon Station Dermatology Clinic
However, no matter how good the reviews, the expected effect of any procedure varies according to skin type.
It is likely to suit people with mild to moderate loss of elasticity
and an overall feeling of loose skin,
or those who have little fat or are on the thin side.
Sofwave is more likely to be suitable for them^^
Because it targets the dermal layer rather than the fat layer, it can improve elasticity without increasing concern about volume loss in the cheeks. It can therefore safely induce elasticity improvement.
During the dermal remodeling process, skin tissue is overall reorganized, so it can also help people with enlarged pores and rough skin texture.
However, if you have severe sagging that requires a strong lift of the deep fascial layer, Sofwave alone may have limitations.
In such cases, Ulthera, which reaches deeply to the SMAS layer, may be more suitable.
Therefore, I recommend confirming your current skin condition through a pre-procedure assessment, and I encourage you to check it carefully before proceeding with the treatment ^^

So far, I have spoken honestly about Sofwave.
To summarize, it's simple ^^
Sofwave is an option to consider if you want to stimulate the full thickness of the dermis without significant cost, pain, or concern about cheek hollowing,
so if you want to create a smooth, even skin texture, that is today's conclusion.
However, as mentioned, Sofwave may not be suitable for everyone depending on skin type, so please decide whether to use it only after a thorough assessment ^^

I will provide care with sincerity.

Question |
Answer |
|
Q. How long does a Sofwave procedure take? |
A. It depends on the treatment area and extent, but it usually takes about 30–50 minutes ^^ If the entire face is covered thoroughly, it may take a bit longer, so please ask the medical staff beforehand and allow a little extra time :) |
|
Q. When can one expect to feel the effects of Sofwave? |
A. Some people notice a slight tightening immediately after the procedure, but the dermal collagen regeneration typically begins in earnest around 4–8 weeks after the procedure. Depending on skin condition, gradual improvement can continue up to 2–3 months ^^ |
|
Q. What's the difference between Sofwave and Thermage? |
A. Both aim to stimulate dermal collagen regeneration, but their energy modalities differ. Thermage uses radiofrequency energy to deliver heat through the full thickness of the dermis, while Sofwave uses parallel ultrasound to uniformly stimulate the mid-dermis. Which is more suitable can vary depending on skin thickness and the degree of laxity. |
