I've heard people say the cheeks can hollow out,

Sofwave is a lifting procedure that precisely delivers ultrasound energy only to the mid-dermis at a depth of 1.5 mm.
This depth corresponds to a layer within the dermis that is rich in collagen; when thermal stimulation is applied there, collagen fibers contract and a regenerative response is actively induced thereafter.

How is it
different from Sofwave?"
Ulthera also uses ultrasound, but it generally tends to concentrate energy deeper, often reaching the SMAS layer.
Sofwave, however, targets only the much more superficial mid-dermis.
Rather than penetrating more deeply, it specifically stimulates the collagen-rich layer,
so you can think of it as a procedure focused more on improving more superficial concerns like pores, fine wrinkles, and skin texture.
Why is Sofwave less likely to cause cheek hollowing?

Post-lifting cheek hollowing mainly occurs when the subcutaneous fat layer shrinks after thermal stimulation.

In particular, procedures that deliver energy to deeper layers often unintentionally stimulate the fat layer.
In other words, even if the subcutaneous fat layer is not the intended target, energy transmitted to deeper layers can have some effect on the fat layer.

However, Sofwave's energy stops at the 1.5 mm dermal layer and therefore does not reach the subcutaneous fat layer.
